Google Includes Support for Websites in Google Trends

Download Center Current Issue Issue Archive
Google Trend has started a new feature called Google trends for websites. This new tool allows users to take a peek at the traffic data from sites around the globe and also to compare the latest search trends.

Google Trends now lets you stop at specific domains and compare basic traffic information about any .com site (or .tv, .biz, .net, and so on) using nothing more than organic user searches. Included are daily traffic numbers in users (sent from Google search), where in the world the users are coming from, and related sites that were either searched for or visited in that same session. All of this information is color coded, and up to five sites at a time can be pitted head-to-head, with bar graphs and charts for each.

The data from Trends for Websites are estimated based on the Google Analytics data, as Google explained. The data comes from the anonymous opt-in data sharing setting in Google Analytics. This setting enables website owners to share their data in an anonymous form.

Interestingly, not all web sites would have their data available when they search for it in Google Trends for Website. Google has a pre-determined volume of traffic that a site should have before it can show relevant site traffic information.

Formally Google Trends which started two years ago was a means to compare tracked searched data for marketers and researchers. It still does this but in a slightly improved manner, it can now calculate website popularity based on the number of daily unique visitors.
