Upgrade JRE to Enable Vista's Aero Glass in Java Apps
If you are running versions lower than JRE (Java Runtime Environment) release 6 update 2, then every time you run the Aero Glass interface in a Java application, it will revert to the non-glass look. Steve Sinchak
says this is because of how the JRE communicates with the display adapter. That is, the JRE does not want to share the 3D surface the desktop is painted on. Therefore, Windows has to revert to the old method of painting the desktop and turn of Aero Glass. Sun has now fixed this issue in the JRE. Click

Windows Vista's Aero Glass UI has semi-translucent windows and other advanced three-dimensional shading features. dialog boxes open in an expanding fashion, starting off small and growing larger as if approaching. To run Aero Glass, your graphics card must have a Longhorn Display Driver Model (LDDM). NVIDIA offers a Vista Beta 1 LDDM driver, and ATI also has LDDM drivers available. To get the full Vista experience, the graphics card needs a lot of memory (64MB minimum, 128MB recommended) and must support the complete DirectX 9 API.
