VMware Flaunts Public Beta for Fusion 2.0
VMware has recently released a public beta for Fusion 2.0, virtualization software that lets Intel-based Macs run Windows, Linux and other operating systems, bringing with it a host of new features that make virtualization on a Mac all that much more enjoyable.
Features added in Fusion 2.0 are:
· VMware Fusion 2.0 Beta 1 offers first “true” multi-display support for virtual machines — users can drag virtual machine (VM) windows among multiple monitors connected to the Mac, up to 10 screens.
· 3D graphic acceleration: Experimental support for DirectX 9.0 Shader Model 2.
· VMware Fusion 2.0 Beta 1 integrates the ability to convert Parallels Desktop and Virtual PC for Mac virtual machines. VMware is also hoping for more conversions with adding the ability to convert Boot Camp partitions to a "full" virtual machine.
· Usability and general improvements: Easy virtual machine printing, totally re-designed Settings Editor, easier Shared Folders, and the list goes on and on.
· Fusion 2.0 will be a free upgrade to all Fusion 1.x users once it is final.
Final specs and pricing have yet to be announced.
