Hitachi Chooses Brocade's File Virtualization Suite



Brocade, a provider of data center networking solutions that help enterprises connect and manage their information, has recently announced a reseller agreement with Hitachi Data Systems whereby Hitachi Data Systems will resell the Brocade StorageX file virtualization and management software solution.

Through the agreement, Brocade StorageX will offer Hitachi Data Systems customers solution for file data replication and migration, as well as centralized management of multiple namespaces.

"The addition of Brocade StorageX to the Hitachi Data Systems portfolio extends the Hitachi Data Systems and Brocade relationship into mission-critical file management solutions," said Tom Buiocchi, Brocade Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. "Together, we are pleased to offer a best-in-class solution that helps customers manage ever-increasing amounts of file data."

With Brocade StorageX, Hitachi Data Systems will be able to expand its portfolio and offer a full end-to-end NAS solution with the ability to virtualize heterogeneous file systems and present a single, consolidated view of all enterprise files.

Hitachi Data Systems customers implementing Brocade StorageX will be able to experience benefits such as: Centralized management of files via policies that run across a global namespace, Improved disaster recovery and business continuity via IP replication and transparent failover in the event of a disaster or a planned outage, Storage consolidation via file migration that simplifies upgrades of the storage infrastructure, Transparent and non-disruptive data management and movement that requires far less administrative time and effort.

"Brocade StorageX is one of the top file virtualization and management solutions on the market today, and we see Brocade as a key enabler in delivering our end-to-end file services strategy to our customers," said Michael Hay, senior director of Product Strategy, Hitachi Data Systems.

Hitachi Data Systems will also partner with Brocade to utilize Brocade StorageX for services designed to help customers who need assistance with heterogeneous file migrations, data mobility, and non-disruptive migration of existing data to the Hitachi portfolio of high-performance NAS platforms.

StorageX came to Brocade via a USD 60m purchase of NuView back in 2006. Brocade has since lent the software to IBM and has ambitions with others such as NetApp, EMC, Sun and HP.
