Dell’s NextWave Of Virtualization Suite Is Out For Grab

IT simplification being the mantra, Dell is now venturing virtualization simplification with its three pillar approach called Standardization, Consolidate virtualization and Automation.

Considering the enterprises need for an array of servers, storage and services for virtualized environment, Dell Computer India, has announced its next generation of virtualization solutions that aim at consolidating the server environment with standardized and automated technologies.

Wikipedia defines virtualization is a broad term that refers to the abstraction of computer resources. Virtualization hides the physical characteristics of computing resources from their users, be they applications, or end users. This includes making a single physical resource such as a server, an operating system, an application, or storage device appear to function as multiple virtual resources. It can also include making multiple physical resources such as storage devices or servers appear as a single virtual resource.

It is estimated that about 70 per cent of a typical IT budget of any company is spent on maintenance and operations, and it is only 30 percent, which is left for allocating and introducing newer solutions. This is perhaps the reason why organizations are now looking at running more number of applications on lesser number of servers.

With the newly launched virtualization solutions including new servers, tools, and services, Dell promises to simplify the deployment and management of virtualization in enterprises of any size. The new Dell PowerEdge R805 and R905 deliver servers optimized for virtualization with the PowerEdge R805 offering 2X the memory and I/O capacity of typical 2 socket servers. A choice of VMware ESXi 3.5 or Citrix XenServer Express integrated hypervisors is also offered with PowerEdge R805 and R905.

Dell claims that, PowerdEdge R900 and R905 can deliver in 4-socket virtualization performance and are also capable of supporting 60 virtual machines in VMmark testing, with 23 percent higher performance than the HP Proliant DL580 G5, 8 percent higher than the IBM System x3850, and 17 percent higher than the Sun Fire X4450.

EqualLogic storage arrays offer new advanced San-aware integration with Vmware Site Recovery Manager for data protection and disaster recovery for virtualized environments at no additional cost in management tools.

PowerEdge R805 and R905 are available at a starting price of Rs. 2 lakhs and 3.5 lakhs worldwide. “Virtualization is quickly moving beyond hardware consolidation. Enterprises are looking for a broad array of servers, storage and services designed specifically for virtualized environments,” said Pallab Talukdar, Director, Enterprise Solutions Group, Dell India.
