What's in Store as New Leadership Takes Hold
As a new era of PHP Extension and Application Repository (affectionately known as PEAR) approaches, the new PEAR governing body has its work cut out for it. In recent months PEAR has gotten a bad rap by some and been wholeheartedly embraced by others. As with any other open source project, as the popularity grows, so do the headaches. Although its popularity has brought fresh bright faces to the growing developer base, it has also experienced some of those open source growing pains. Increasing resources means more contributions, but it also means an increased need for coordination and diplomacy across cultural differences, different views, and different ideas of what’s best for the project.
